Storyline of A Marriage Carol
Jacob and Marlee are celebrating their anniversary, Christmas Eve, by going to a lawyer to sign divorce papers. They are discussing what to tell their children while taking a shortcut. An accident occurs and Marlee is knocked unconscious. When she comes to, Jacob is gone.
Marlee goes looking for help and finds a farmhouse. She meets Jay and his dog, Rue, who take her in and warm her. Marlee has no cell phone power and discovers that Jay's house phone is out as well. Jay goes looking for Jacob. He returns and serves Marlee some soup, taking some upstairs to his wife.
Jay shows Marlee three pots that have lessons to teach her. She watches the first and is fascinated by seeing herself in the past. As she watches the next two, she realizes what a mistake she and Jacob are making in getting a divorce. Marlee follows Rue upstairs and visits with Jay's wife who helps Marlee see what she needs to do to be happy.
Characters of A Marriage Carol
Jacob and Marlee are an excellent representation of a married couple who have decided that life's struggles would be lessened if they were apart. Their story parallels what so many couples go through during the season's of their marriages. The lessons learned by Jacob and Marlee are tangible and real.
Use of A Marriage Carol
The authors have included discussion questions. These questions help the reader not only dive deeper into the story but into their own life struggles as well. These questions could be used by a small group, an individual or in a counseling setting. The book would make an excellent addition to a counseling environment.
This is an awesome book! It has just the right amount of Dickens's with a modern twist. I especially liked the nod to Dickens in the naming of the main characters. I would recommend this book to all readers married or not as it has lessons for everyone about relationships.
